Basic Concept

Materiality (Key Issues)

We have identified four material issues that will contribute to the medium- to long-term growth of the HOYA Group.

1) Greenhouse gases ↓

1) Greenhouse Gas (CO₂) Reduction (Environment)

The HOYA Group considers reducing greenhouse gas emissions to be its highest priority among ESG materiality issues. We aim to increase the ratio of renewable energy in our electricity consumption to 60% by fiscal 2030 and 100% by fiscal 2040.

In line with this groupwide target, our company is also actively promoting CO₂ reduction initiatives, particularly at our manufacturing sites.

Regarding environmental management, our manufacturing sites have obtained ISO 14001:2015 third‑party certification and operate environmental management systems in accordance with international standards.

 

 

2) Product Quality and Safety

As a company engaged in medical products, we are fully committed to ensuring the highest standards of product safety and quality management.

a business that handles medical products, we take all possible measures to ensure product safety and quality control.

(1) Compliance with Laws and Regulations

We comply with all domestic and international standards applicable to our products, as well as all relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines related to product quality and safety.

(2) Collection and Response to Product‑Related Incident Information

We continuously strive to collect information from customers and other stakeholders regarding any product‑related accidents or malfunctions.

When necessary, we report such incidents to regulatory authorities in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, provide appropriate information to customers, and take necessary actions such as product recalls or corrective measures.

(3) Ensuring Product Safety

To further strengthen product safety and quality, we provide continuous training and education to our employees. In addition, we keep our Quality Management System (QMS) up to date and continuously review and improve our organizational structure and operational processes related to product safety and quality control.

3)Employee Participation, Diversity, and Inclusion
(including Employee Engagement)

We strive to create a work environment where diverse employees can feel engaged and fulfilled, maximize their abilities, and grow together with the company.

(1) Respect for Human Rights and Individuals

In line with the HOYA Group’s philosophy and values, the HOYA Code of Conduct serves as a fundamental guideline to be followed in conducting business activities.

It clearly states our commitment to respecting basic human rights and eliminating discrimination and harassment based on race, nationality, gender, religion, beliefs, birthplace, age, or physical or mental disability. We fully comply with these principles.

We also aim to provide a safe and healthy workplace where employees can work with confidence. To prevent sexual and power harassment, we regularly conduct training sessions and awareness‑raising programs.

(2) Diversity

We have established a variety of systems to support flexible workstyles, including flextime, telecommuting, encouraging paternity leave, childcare leave until a child reaches age three, shortened working hours until the third grade of elementary school, and family‑care leave.

We have established a flexible working environment and various systems related to work styles, such as flexible working hours, telecommuting, encouraging male employees to take childcare leave, childcare leave until the child turns 3 years old, shortened working hours until the third grade of elementary school, and nursing care leave.

We actively promote creating a workplace environment that enables employees to balance work and family life.

(5) Talent Development and Strengthening

To meet the diverse learning needs of our employees and enable them to acquire the specialized knowledge and skills required for their roles, we offer a wide range of employee training and development programs.

(6) Safety, Health, and Wellness Initiatives

HOYA actively promotes safety, health, and wellness initiatives to enhance the well‑being of employees and their families.
We prioritize employee safety and health and strive to provide a workplace environment that is safe, healthy, and considerate of the diverse needs of our employees.

4) Supply Chain Management

As a member of the HOYA Group, we aim to uphold a high standard of legal compliance and ethical conduct, in line with our legal and social responsibilities and our obligation to protect the fundamental human rights and basic labor rights of all employees.

To ensure that the same standards are met throughout our supply chain, we have established the HOYA Supplier Code of Conduct, which outlines the expectations for legal compliance and ethical business practices required of all suppliers.
We request that all suppliers agree to and comply with this Code as a condition of doing business with us.

Other Efforts

Contribution to Society and Local Communities

Our company engages in various community-based and social contribution activities. We believe that encouraging employees to participate in such initiatives—such as community cleanups and blood donation drives—not only strengthens their sense of loyalty to the company but also supports business growth and contributes to addressing social issues.

Contribution of donations to the Japan Vulnerability Network Foundation

We provide donations to the Fragility Fracture Network Japan, supporting its mission:
“To eliminate fragility fractures among the elderly and contribute to extending healthy life expectancy through initiatives that promote the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, as well as related educational and awareness activities.”

 

Environmental Initiatives (Use of FSC‑Certified Paper)

To help reduce environmental impact, we use FSC‑certified paper in the packaging of our products, including the cosmetic boxes for artificial bone products and the sterile outer packaging for metal implant products.
